I got the inspiration for this video from the Kevin Spacey / Annette Bening movie "American Beauty", one of my favorite movies of recent years.
The video was shot with my Nikon D3100 DSLR. There are no software changes to the video, except for the colour draining effect.
I knew that the video would be really good when I was shooting it.
Shot in Centennial Park in Moncton, NB.
Music from Stockmusic.net.
No tripod was used here - I was holding the camera freehand.

Mid-life crisis becomes conquest as Lester Burnham breaks out of his doldrums, quits his job, lifts weights, lusts after his daughter's friend (not his best plan), smokes weed with neighbor kid and buys a 1970 Firebird ("It's the car I've always wanted and now I have it. I RULE." Now THAT is a good plan.

Minimalist Poster #24
In this poster I designed for this Academy Award winning film, I decided to focus on the iconic flying plastic bag scene as this was what first came into my head when I think of American Beauty. Such a beautiful scene consisting of such an unusual yet everyday object to focus on in a film of this dramatic nature.
Anyway...enjoy!!!

The 1991 crime drama "Bugsy" (top) was based on the biography of then mobster Ben 'Bugsy' Siegel.
Here's what I learned about the Kings Tropical Inn location:
Bugsy moved to the L.A. area from the east coast in about 1937. The Kings Tropical Inn opened in 1930 at this location at Adams and Washington in Culver City. The Kings Tropical was a stones throw away from the Culver City Studios (Sony Pictures?), which Bugsy had some "business" with. The Kings was a popular hang out for Bugsy and other celebs because of the close proximity to the studios. Now, fast forward to 1991 for the production of the movie with Warren Beatty. The original building on Washington was used as the location for the Inn. I don't know what business occupied the building at this time, and I'm not sure when Kings went out of business. Three years later in 1994, the building suffered damage from the Northridge quake. It was rebuilt, but without the beautiful dome.

This scene, in the top photo, at the Santa Monica Pier kinda cracked me up. In the real world you can't get this view of the pier from in front of the sign. On closer inspection, you can tell that the sign was superimposed onto the scene of the pier. I guess there was no CGI in '91.
In my photo, below, I did a quick photoshop to try and reproduce the screen grab. See my additional photo of the pier sign to see the difference.

The Santa Monica pier was a location used for this film which is supposed to take place in the '40s.
